MOMS Offering Moms Support®
Monthly Meetings
Once each month, a business meeting is held to discuss various topics related to the MOMS Club and its members. Each month, moms take turns providing a fun activity or craft project for the kids. The first 15 minutes of the meeting allows time for drinks and snacks, some social time and an opportunity to meet prospective members. Recaps of prior months’ activities are shared with the group from the respective committee chairs. New business such as status of finances, the calendar of events and service projects, and other volunteer opportunities are discussed with the members. We occasionally have guest speakers to discuss topics that might be of interest to our members. The meeting is closed by open discussion and final announcements from the members.
Playgroups
This is a great way to interact with other moms and their children in a smaller group setting during the “winter” months. Our playgroup setting is with approximately 3-5 moms. We use a “hat drawing” method to arrange the groupings so we can all spend time and meet new moms on a regular basis. We keep the same groupings for a 3-month time span with room to add our new members in on the fun. During the summer months, we do not have playgroups but use our group-wide park days as all-member playgroups, instead!
Park Days
As mentioned above, this is our “summer” version of playgroups where we, as a club, are all welcome to attend at the park of the week.
MOMS Night Out
This night is a night for you to get out and enjoy yourself! All of us get together to get to know each other and chat without the kids. This is a MOMS only activity! If you are a breastfeeding mom and need to bring your infant with you, you may. Only MOMS are permitted to attend this activity.
Family Night Out
This night is a night for you and your family to enjoy some time together. You also can introduce your significant other to all the new friends you’ve made while being a part of the MOMS Club. This is a family only activity! We do understand that there may be times when your spouse is traveling or working late. In those instances, you and your children are welcome to attend our activity. If your spouse is available, however, he should be encouraged to attend with you so that other husbands won’t feel so alone!
Couples Night Out
Looking for something to do and other couples to hang out with? This is a great chance to connect with other adults while your children are at home with a babysitter. This is an adult only activity! If you are a breastfeeding mom and need to bring your infant with you, you may. Only couples are permitted to attend this activity; if your husband is working late or traveling you may not be permitted to attend.
Community Involvement and Fundraising
We sponsor activities and events to raise money for charities that help women, children, and families. Members vote for chosen charities each year. We are always looking for volunteers to help or coordinate a project or new suggestions for future community projects. We are also always looking for new ways to reach out and make a difference. We welcome all ideas!!
Special Activities
This committee will give you the chance to get involved with the weekly activities. There is usually at least one coordinator for the year and we ask that all members give ideas/suggestions to help the coordinator out in planning. This committee will present calendar ideas to the general membership for consideration and approval at a monthly business meeting. We all enjoy finding new activities to do with our children so your ideas are always welcomed and strongly encouraged! They also occasionally need people to simply be the contact person for a specific activity which involves attending the activity itself and having the sign-in sheet signed by each participant and turned into the Membership Vice President.
Helping Hands
This committee is a group of volunteers that offer to bring meals, do errands or babysit for those other members who may need a little extra help for awhile. Typically, this is when a new baby has arrived or another family crisis has come up. You simply volunteer to be on the list and when someone needs the group you can agree to bring a meal or offer other services if it fits into your schedule at the time.
Party Planning
The MOMS club holds a few parties each year typically during the monthly meetings. We have a party coordinator who is always looking for extra help when it comes to planning and coordinating these parties.
Newsletter
We have a newsletter coordinator for the year that sometimes is looking for extra help with proofreading the newsletter before they are distributed to the club each month through e-mail.
Specialized Activity Groups:
The specialized activity groups are an example of ways that we try and meet the individual needs of our moms and what we could offer. These groups are specialized and a coordinator is assigned to them to assist you in helping you meet your current needs whether it be last minute or preplanned.
“JUMP” Just Us Mom’s Play
Are your children all in school all day? Then this group intended just for you! Enjoy some “mom” time with other mom’s in your situation. Share advice, stories and fun while your children are at school.
“Hoot and Howls” Husbands Out Of Town/Husbands Out Working Late
If you have a Husband Out Of Town or a Husband Out Working Late, then this is the club for you! A volunteer coordinator keeps a list of those moms who find themselves in this situation. We know some are all the time while others may just be for a certain period of time. She will compile the list as changes are made and distribute to all on the list with a list of days and times that husbands will be unavailable to the family. Members can then call one another as they wish to set up independent meeting times. This is a service offered by our club for moms in those special circumstances. Individual meetings will not be MOMS Club-sponsored events and all risk assumed is yours at the time you meet
Clubs based on interest level:
All activities are held during daytime hours and children will be present.
Cooking Club
Some say this should be called the “eating club”. Each month a member volunteers to host the club and the group gets together to share a “themed” treat and exchange their recipes. The kids have a great time and everyone eats.
Stamping/Scrapbooking Club
Whether you are an experienced stamper/scrapbooker, a beginner or have a creative itch you will love this group. We get together each month at the coordinator’s homes and work on either your scrapbooks, cards, projects or just gather ideas. The kids are of course welcome and enjoy playing together within view of the moms.
Breakfast Club
This club meets at different breakfast place or houses each month to take a minute to sit down relax and get to know some of the other moms with your children.
Fitness Club
This club gives you the opportunity to have a workout partner. Whether it be getting together to walk the mall, going to the gym or an aerobics class. This club will keep you motivated and moving toward your workout goals.
Sewing Club
If you like to sew or would like to learn this club is for you! This club offers an opportunity for you to learn to make curtains, a pillow or other projects that other members know how to do. This is a great way to share what you know with others and learn from those who know how to do it.
Book Club (Adult)
Do you like to read or just need the motivation to do so? At every book club meeting, a member in the book club picks a new book to read and then you get to meet and share it at the next book club meeting. This is a great way to expand the types of books you read and share the authors that you love with other moms.
Book Club (Children)
Does your child have a favorite book or author? At every book club meeting, members in the book club picks a new book to read and then you get to meet and share it at the next book club meeting. This is a great way to expand the types of books your family reads and share the authors that you love with other children.
